Natural Environment Studies

In California, Ceres Associates conducts Natural Environmental Studies in accordance with CalTrans and FWA requirements. The ‘affected environment’ is defined, including the results of the detailed wetlands delineation. A preliminary review of potential constraints related to rare, threatened or endangered species of flora and/or fauna on the site is undertaken. The potential for rare, threatened or endangered plant or animal species is assessed for the site and the general vicinity. Then, a field reconnaissance is conducted to inventory biological habitat present on the site.

Biological reports include an assessment and evaluation of impacts to biological resources that would occur due to development of the proposed project. Potential reduction of the number and diversity of native plant species, introduction of new species onto the site through landscaping, loss of wildlife habitat, and disruption of wildlife use are addressed. The impact evaluation includes direct and indirect effects, and short-term and long-term effects. Based upon impact findings, feasible mitigation measures and agency permit requirements are presented.
